Title: Our marae noho
25/06/18
Introduction
Last thursday it was cold and it was a wet morning. Room 4, 5, 3 were leaving from Tautoro to kohewhata marae on the magic school bus. When we got off the bus me and the boys took everyone’s bags into the kitchen, on the floor. There were so many bags we loaded.
A few minutes later We all went into the whare for a whaikorero and to mihi to our ancestors. Who was on the whaikorero it was papa Wikitoria me and Matt, before we go in we seen Rahiri, and inside there were lot’s of carvings inside of the whare, there were so many that I couldn’t even count them all. After that we years 8 went to the kitchen, we went there to prep our food for dinner, there were lot’s of things that we have to do.
For starters we peel the potatoes, I had lazy finger after that but I still did the mahia. Next me and Tyla had to take all of the seeds out of the plam’s, for our desert, my jaw dropped to the ground of how much there was. But Tyla and I took them out easy as that. We all had jobs to do.
The last thing we done in the kitchen was putting everything together and then we cleaned up afterwards then the year 8s split up into teams I went into group number 5, we were doing koauau. They are like and flute but they're to call birds. I was make shapes with my koauau, it felt nice and squishy when you play with it then we moved on with another activity we were make headbands with wheae chanella, It was pretty simple to make its just like weaving but with paper, well after all those actively we had dinner
I thought that day was and awesome and I wish that we can have it again back at the marae, the thing that I liked was making koauau with whaea gaylene.
Kia ora Sonny, Whaea Cassandra here. What an amazing recount of your day at Kohewhata Marae. You kept me hooked right through to the very end of your recount, with the descriptions that you gave. It sounds like you all had a brilliant time at the Marae. I have never seen a Koauau, I want to learn more about them. Keep up the amazing work.
